This page is dedicated to inspire, encourage and restore lives that are impacted by mental illness. To overcome stigma by raising awareness about mental illness and mental well-being through education and storytelling. To inspire people from all walks of life and Eritrean refugees who have experienced all types of trauma on their journey to pursue a better life outside their own country. There is hope. To encourage others to tell their stories and by doing so to find peace and healing. To explore and learn the impact of mental illness in the context of one’s own life experiences, faith journey, and relationships.

My name is Salem Welday. Born and raised in Eritrea and currently residing in Canada. As a kid, I always dreamed of becoming a medical doctor, in pursuit of my dream I decided to become a nurse first, so as to have a smooth transition to Medical School later. During my practicum years in nursing – I developed a strong passion for mental health particularly in the most vulnerable segment of the population — “Children and Adolescents”. I stuck with it ever since then and continue to further my knowledge and experience in that area. As an immigrant, I firsthand experienced the effects of mental illness in my community and the people I work with. My profession opened the door for me to directly work with such a population. In addition to my profession, my faith also allowed me to pursue this calling. I believe this is just the beginning. I am not a professional writer per se; however, I love to write with authenticity to encourage and lift others. We are created for connection and I genuinely do believe that every person has a story to tell. I hope you join me on this journey and grow together as a community. I believe in a holistic approach – physical, emotional, spiritual and mental wellbeing. You will see me talk a lot about my faith and quoting the bible. My intention is not to persuade you to follow my faith but to help you see mental health in the light of the bible as part of a holistic approach. Also, my faith plays a huge role in every aspect of my life including my writings. I have a deep respect for all religions and cultures.
